Yes that is him, I know all of the descendants, I am looking to trace back  where and who he came from. My research is a dead end with him.

Yes, I have found Census records for St Anne De Beaupre (can't prove it is him) and family stories claim he came from Chicoutimi.

If you can send me the link for the census, then I can do some checks.  With the first name of his children, I can compare with those of Joseph's siblings.

Here's Angelique' baptism act ( B-96 ) at Coteau-du-Lac, parish St-Ignace, on Family Search :

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-L993-W7G2?i=27&wc=HCHW-N38%3A21035401%2C21035402%2C21386601&cc=1321742

There's a 6 years difference between this act and the 1901 census DOB.

If you don't have an account on Family Search, you need one.  It's free and they don't send mails very often.

You are definitely on the right path!

Here's a  1851 Census  on which ther'es a Joseph Gagnon ( line 10 ).  He's the son of Charles and Felicite Lavoie.  He was born on January 29th 1844 at La Baie.  La Baie ( or Bagot ) is not very far from Chicoutimi.  He's the only one to born near Chicoutimi between 1840 and 1850

Forget about the one in Ste-Anne-de-Beaupré.  He was born on october 23 1843 and he got married in 1883 in Ste-Anne.

Files for Isidore Vinet and Angélique Leroux are already on this site :

We are cousins.  Click on these Isidore Vinet ancestors : Jacques Vinet, Elisabeth Robillard, Elisabeth Daoust, Guillaume Daoust and Guillaume Daoust.  Guillaume Daoust and Madeleine Lalonde are the ancestors that we have in common.

Never any luck with the 1881 census, I have a photo of the Vinettes in Peterborough in 1881 but from someone elses research. Have you had any luck finding it? Perhaps it has been destroyed

Having said that about the 1881 census, I did find it, it's incomplete as several families are not listed. I searched all the pages with out any luck.

Bad news Nancy.

Joseph, son of Charles and Felicite Lavoie, is not the one you were seeking.  Here's the death of Joseph :

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-899Q-79NF-B?i=150&wc=HCVM-929%3A14993301%2C14993302%2C14993303&cc=1321742

We will have to search another family.

I'll expand my search and look for every Joseph Gagnon born in Charlevoix and Saguenay counties between 1840 and 1850.  Here's a list of places and years where I"ll search :

1843 : La Malbaie,  Les Éboulements.   1845 :  Baie-St-Paul,  Ste-Agnes  1847  :  La Malbaie ( 2 ), Ste-Agnes, Les Escoumins.  1848 : Ile-aux-Coudres.  1850 : La Malbaie.

The problem is almost every boy had Joseph as a given name and we don't know if it was the only one Joseph Gagnon received.

Father's name is Célestin.  Younger brother is Elzeard.  Célestin married Elisabeth Girard in october 1839 at Ste-Agnes.  Elisaberth passed away in 1842 at La Malbaie.  Then Célestin married Sophie McNicoll in november 1842 in Grande-Baie.

Elzeard was born in january 1848, Mathieu in september 1845 and Marie in september 1843, all in Grande-Baie and with Sophie as the mother.  I didn't find Joseph birth.  Mother was probably Elisabeth.

Joseph died in Jonquière, parrish St-Dominique :  http://bibnum2.banq.qc.ca/bna/ecivil/pdf/02C/CE201/02C_CE201S7/1913/01/02C_CE201S7_1913_085.pdf

His wife died in 1906 in Délisle, Lac-St-Jean.  Joseph was born before his parent's marriage, I'm pretty sure it's in january 1839 in Ste-Agnès.
