Bonjour!  I'm hoping someone can help me as I'm having difficulty starting a family tree.  
I've gone through the instructions several times to no avail.  I'm clearly overlooking something, or I'm missing something in translation.   

The instructions are telling me to go to My Account and then: 
1) Click on “My Persons” from the menu on the left 
2) Search the person 
3) Click the icon tree on the left of your person

The problem is, I have no "Persons"  and I don't see where I can save the people I've located.  I'm continually getting the message - that I have to be the owner of the record.  

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have dozens, if not nearly 100 ancestors I love to add to the site.

You can not create "your" tree on this site because this site is ONE big tree.

Click on "Add a new person" and create your parent's files.  When you'll look at "My persons", you'll see those 2 files.  If you can locate files of some of your ancestors, that means somebody has alredy created these files.  Do not create new files for them.  Just link your branch to these ancestors.

I presume  you have found some of your ancestors already on this site

now if you click on the small enveloppe you can leave a message to the owner of the  file

and may be  this would work  better  for you,  hoping this will  help

Thanks for the quick response. Sorry if I was not clear.  

All my ancestors are from Quebec, and many are on the site, but many more are not. Over the past few months, I've been adding more DOB's & DOD's. The problem is, I do not want to keep pestering the owners so I have been keeping a spreadsheet with all the information.    

Needless to say, to spreadsheet is growing quite a bit, so a few weeks ago I was asked to do this, but their response was - they first need to see an example of my own tree.    

This is where the problem / confusion comes in. I understand it's all one tree - that's the main reason I love this site - it's not all sorts of conflicting info, but - if I'm not allowed to enter my own "People" without authorization from the administrators how do I connect to existing ancestors?   

Hope this clarifies things up and again for your quick response.

Thanks for your quick response.  The problem I'm having is  - I'm unable to add my "People" or anyone for that matter, without authorization from administrators.  So a few weeks ago, I asked the adminstrators for authorization, but was told they first needed to see an example of my family tree - which I clearly can't do, without adding "my people" to connect me to the existing information.   I'm clearly missing something, but I'm unsure what.

I  do pass all I know to others,   I do not OWN any files,  sorry 

but the owners are the only ones who can make additions and corrections  

I get their  email and send a whole batch  all  at once,   like all the 14 children of a grand father
