you can put your question in english no problem

voyer translates in surveyor (roads)

it is as far as I can understand a report

does  your system translate  authomatically ?

I wrote in French because I expect there are more people that speak exclusively French on this forum than exclusively English. An explanation in French is just as good as an explanation in English. Meanwhile, why would there be an election for a surveyor?

I know all of that information already (birth, marriage, death) for Côme. The specific question was about the meaning of sous voyer.

Right now, the biggest question I have about this family are when and where Philomene was born, sometime between 1839 and 1842, and probably in Troy, NY. The Sainte Mary sacramental records in Troy seems to begin in 1844, after the birth of George Goulet in Henryville. I am told, however, that the Sainte Mary church was established in 1843, so I wonder whether Côme may have had a part in that considering he and Archange were between St. Cuthbert/Jolliette and Troy, NY during the birth of George, potentially indicating that they had begun travelling after the establishment of the Sainte Mary church and had George on the way. The other Catholic church in Troy at the time, Saint Peter, has its sacramental records currently in the hands of the Diocesian Archives, and those records are presently inaccessible until it's determined how they want to preserve them. Another nearby Catholic church in Albany that is the only one still active from that time period (Sainte Mary and Saint Peter in Troy are no longer active), had their records destroyed in a fire in the 1850s.

I'm also interested in what Côme's son's (Charles Goulet) activities were as a priest, but haven't looked much into that yet.
