I cannot find any information on the Modeste family in Quebec on this page. If you have any information on this family it will be of use. My great-grandmother, Nellie Modeste, was born in about 1897 near Nipissing Ontario to Alphonse Modeste and Mary Sampier (St-Pierre). Alphonse and Mary were married in April 1877 in Perth, Ontario. They had several children, including Arthmiso, Arminnie, Gertrude, and Joseph. Thank you!

I considered that since Nellie's French husband, whilst born in Ontario, was pure-blood Quebecois, so I thought her ancestry might be the same. I hadn't heard of that site before. 

In 1915, Nellie married Felix Belanger, born in 1891 in Ontario to Elzear Belanger and Louisa Poulin. Records that I have searched for her family thus far carry no information before the marriage of Alphonse and Mary, Nellie's parents. 

Alphonse's parents, per the perth marriage record, are Baptiste Modeste and Levica Olie. Mary's parents are listed as Peter Sampier (St-Pierre) and Mary

Also, upon searching the surname "Modeste" in this website, I came across no persons with that surname at all. 

Surnames associated with Modeste are Buisson, Lafrenière and Lemire.

I think, by reading the county marriage record, that Baptiste's wife was  Léocadie.

Arthmiso is  Arthémise ( a female given name ).  Arminnie is written  Herménie or Hermminie in french.

Bagot is for Bagot and Blythfield in Renfrew County.  The family was living in Calabogie ( near Bagot ) when Arminnie was born.

Thank you for all this help! I'm now reminded that my aunt had Nellie's surname as Lafreniere - I had forgotten about that. I'm busy today so I'll work through all this when I have time tomorrow. - Kyle

I cannot access ancestry, yet, but I understand what you say. Do any of those records give any hints to Marie-Jeanne St-Pierre's family? That's the last quarter of my grandfather's family history to tackle.
