Joe

Does anyone know if employment contracts from the 1600s are available online or on microfilm? Specifically, I'm looking for Denis Veronneau, who signed on June 17 1659 in La Rochelle (Médard Charest, sieur Des Groseiller is the only other information that I have). Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Here's a link to a document I found : http://pdf.actualite-poitou-charentes.info/081/actu081juil2008_54-57..pdf

The man who "hire" was Médard Chouart des Groseilliers.  Etienne Vérgnonneau signed a contract to serve Médard Chouart for 3 years at a salary of 72 pounds a year.  The contract was drafted by notary Pierre Moreau.

Here's another interesting link : https://lebloguedeguyperron.wordpress.com/2014/06/19/inventaire-des-documents-canadiens-dans-les-minutes-du-notaire-moreau-a-la-rochelle/

There's a difference on the year.  We can see June 17 1659 somewhere and June 17 1661 on notary documents.

Thank you very much!  I was able to get the document.  It's interesting that everywhere 1659 was referenced as the year, but the document wound up being from 1661.  I'm amazed at the amount of research that has been done on all of this. Of course, if I could read French it would be a whole lot easier!
