I have my metis card. When I applied for my sons when they turned 16 I was told I needed proof that Clemence Maille, (b. 15 March 1826, m.Onesime Roy) is really related to Josephte Brissette (m Jacques Maille). Any help would be appreciated.
thanks

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Clemence Maille does not descend from Hippolyte Brissette.

Jacques Maille married Josephte Defond, Jan. 15, 1816 in St.Cuthbert (Berthier co.) Qc. Josephte Defond's parents were : Louis Lamy dit Defond & Josephte Brisset. Louis Lamy dit Defond married Josephte Brisset Oct. 24, 1791 at La Visitation (parish), Ile-Dupas (Berthier co.) Qc. (source :  FamilySearch.org, Quebec Catholic parish register) :

Hippolyte Brisset m. to Josephte L'Hirondelle had a daughter named Josephte. She was married to Narcisse Myner, April 20, 1857 at Penetanguishene (Simcoe co), Ontario. Which is proof she is definitely not your Josephte Brisset.

Josephte Brissette (Gr.Granny Miner) idthe daugher of Hypolite Brissette and Archange L'Hirondelle. Hypolite's parents were Toussaint Charron Brissette and Louise Mongeon from Quebec. Archange parents are unclear- it is suspected she is the daughter of Jacques l'Hirondelle from Lesser Slave Lake and Josephte Pilon from NWT- but proof of that is what we all seek since a birth record for her seems to be very hard to find.

People should be informed that Roland Bélanger (REB) (metisinfo12 @ gmail.com) is an elder of the so-called Ontario Montagnais Metis Band :

and that his participation to this thread (as well as many other genealogy forums) is motivated by the interests of his organisation.

These so-called Metis or Aboriginal communities have mushroomed in Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes over the past 10 years. People must get informed about them. The decision to join these organisations is up to them afterward.

--------------

Domonique Richot is a Canadian French puritan. She, particularly,  is incredibly biased against the the Metis who include 99% of descendants of New France. By her internet statements she is loathed that we (in her own words) make "squaws" of our maternal ancestors. This is her prejudice showing-------for everyone to see!

Dominique is showing her claws by trying to discredit me. Not very professional.  I am 71 years old and not in the least concerned. Since she has WARNED EVERYONE I am obliged to reply.

My interest is to make sure that every descendant of Clemence Maille and Onesime Roi know that they have aboriginal roots.

There is a need to create a new Metis organization to do this. Many, many people are being left out of local Metis communities. I am providing everything I have freely---no obligation. Once I have done this I will step down and let the many others continue in whatever way they wish.

See for yourself:   htttp://www.montagnaismetis.ca

If you wish to listen to her dire warning of my so called "self interest" then so be it.

I trust that if you are reading this you will think and decide for yourself.

Just for the record : I have four proven aboriginal lines, well documented. I have ancestors who were involved in the early fur trade in New France, again, proven with credible documents. I also have English, French and German ancestry. So far for being a French Canadian Puritan.

It's no surprise that I'm called a French Canadian Puritan, that I'm branded as biased and prejudiced against Metis organisations, since is seems to be standard that these epithets are pulled everytime the views of so-called Metis researchers are challenged.

As for your statement that I said « you make "squaws" of our maternal ancestors », lets just say this is your personnal interpretation of my own words. I have never used the word « squaws ». I challenge you to provide the quote when I used such a derogatory word.

However, I have said, and I stand by my words, that some researchers are attributing Native ancestry to our foremothers, but have yet to release credible sources to substiantate their theory.

The same can be said about your assumption that the Metis include 99 % of descendants of New France. There is a fine difference between presenting a theory as fact and proving a theory.

I have researched Clemence Maillé and Onésime Roy lines and I can testify, with credible documents, that even though they are connected to families with strong ties to the early fur trade in New France or had significant contacts with Natives, neither Clemence Maillé nor Onésime Roy have aboriginal ancestry.

If your interests are benevolent, than you should not be offended when challenged. I stand by what I posted above : people are free to join Metis organisations or communites, but they shall be informed about the motivations of those organisations. If such a statement is showing any bias or prejudice according to people supporting them, so be it.

Firstly I am not offended by your challenge! And I am altruistic. My motives are selfless.

What you did was talk about me as if I were a danger to people. "Warning", "warning"! It was the way you presented the facts. You dislike they way I assume particular things about my lineage. I dislike they way you have presented yourself as the goddess of lineages by making presumptions about where my ancestors originated.....And that I cannot claim anything about them without documentation. Are you bragging about your well documented Metis affiliation?
I suspected that you had mixed blood ancestry with the name Richot

I know now that your bias is not being Metis, but toward those that wish to join a Metis community that do not have absolute documentation.

I did not leave my first message for you. It was to another person. Either you are that person or you have received information from her or asked her for information. She has not contacted me further so, I assume, that you have influenced her in some way. Pretty awesome power you have! No matter!

As for the word "squaw", it was a French web translation of something you said, I believe, on a Quebec Metis forum. I wasn't able to retract the page. I apologize if this was offensive, but the interpretation is still the fact that you object to my maternal ancestors being called Metis without some sort of documentation.

Unless you are related to Onesime Roi and Clemence Maille, what right is it of yours to make such bold statements about our ancestry? I think you got a lot of pleasure out of informing people all over the web that they are not related to the Ontario Brisset family. How helpful! I am related to the Brissett family but indirectly by marriage.

Stating unequivocally that this couple do not have native ancestry without all the facts, especially those relating to birth in France, appears to me vindictive or maybe just a flexing of your great opinion and reputation as a genealogist.

If discouraging people from joining a Metis community for all the social and political benefits that it may provide is your objective, then, it seems, you have succeeded by at least one person in this case!

I have edited my above posts to include the images of BMD records pretaining to Clemence Maillé lineage (with sources).

I suggest Mr. Belanger to contact the person who inquired about the Maillé Roy line directly through her personnal files (Grozelle, Dubeau, Roy, Maillé).
