j'aimerais avoir d'aide avec un chaînon manquant d'une Hengard de
Gilles ou Enguehard d'un Joseph LaPolice - né à St-Léon, baptisé le
12/07/1843.
ID du père : 860182 = 123400 Pierre-Gilles Hangard Lapolice n'est pas correct.
HENGARD-LAPOLICE, Gilles, fils de Gilles Engard ou Enguehard et de Marie Hervel, de Pontfarci, diocèse de... # Page 130...IL LAPOLICE, Jean-Bte. Gilles I. ?
Il est très confus, comme il sont a tant d'autres noms et orthographes.
Hengard, Engard, Angard, Enguehard, Hengard-Lapolice, etc..

Joseph Hongard was baptized on July 12th, 1843, born the same day from the marriage of Augustin Hongard dit Lapolice and Mathilde Pratte. Godparents were Joseph Hongard dit Lapolice and Mathilde Lupien. Parish St-Léon-le-Grand, Maskinongé Co.

About the written form of Hangard, the PRDH standardized it for ANGARD. The reason of these different written forms was the level of education of the priest. Many of them were not familiar with "strange" names, so they wrote it the way they think it should be. Here's the written forms of ANGARD you can see before 1800 and their frequency :

You'll find Joseph on page 115 and his father ( Justin ) on page 112.

I am subscribed to Quebec Records http://www.genealogiequebec.com whee I can search the Drouin Collection records. Cornwall, Ontario is listed but I have no idea how to find a person- there's lots of .jpg images.
I also have access to all their search tools, including LaFrance, Great Collections etc.

Généalogie Québec is a great tool. And will be better and better with time.
Actually, only the Québec's acts are indexed. To search in the Drouin Collection for Ontario, Acadie and United States, you need to know where and roughly when to search.
These collections are indexed on Ancestry and it's easier to search on that site.
Anyway, Phoebe was born in Cornwall Vermont. Here's the proof :
I found on Internet that Phoebe's grandparents were born in Québec.
Did you take a look at Xavier's file on this site ??

That document is a proof for me that Calixte Ains and Marie Roussel was married.
Like many others, I'm unable to find their marriage. But with deaths records, I was able to link Calixte and Phoebe to their parents.

Thank you very much for your diligence connecting Joseph Angard dit LaPolice M. Malvena (Malvina) Brissette at South Hadley Falls, MA USA on 12/27/1868, mother and father to:
Xavier LaPolice B. 5/20/1875 at St. Boniface, Québec (they must have returned to Canada?).
One interesting item is that Jean-Baptiste Hangard "Goujat " (father to Joseph),B. 11/11/1753 at Forges du St-Maurice, Yamachiche, Québec and his father, Gilles-Louis Hangard Enguehard "Goujat" B. 1727 at Paroisse de Pont-Farcy, Calvados, Normandie. Goujat translated means "Rude, Wild, Mean" - is this something that the priests added to the names if they did not like the people?
Also, I have another missing link- namely Marie Roy (my GGM) born (?) at St. Henri-Lauzon, Québec Married Joseph H. Boisvert, B.5/15/1870 at St-Valere d'Arthabaska, Québec.
Joseph was son to Augustin Boisvert B.6/27/1808 at Nicolet, Comté Nicolet, Québec and Marie LePitre dit Pitte B. 4/21/1819 at Nicolet, Comté Nicolet, Québec.
Marie Roy cannot be found when crossed with her marriage to Joseph on 10/28/1885 in Holyoke, MA USA.

Goujat is only a surname, a "dit" name or an alias. The person was known by this surname in his community. It can also be "gougeon" ( a family name used today ) that turn to "goujat" by the priest who thinks that was the way to wrote it.
About Joseph Boisvert and Marie Roy, I think you're right for the day and the month, but wrong about the year. And if the following document is the marriage you're referring to, Augustin and Marie Pitre are not Joseph's parents, but grandparents

P.S. : Marie's parents are Laurent Roy and Sarah Labonté. Did'nt find their marriage yet.
Maybe in the States. They were living in Québec in 1891 and 1901.

I have found many inaccuracies and missing links- I think there was at least one if not two re-marriages, which makes things even more difficult.
I have found a birth date for Marie Roy (Born 7-2 1875 at St. Henri-Lauzon) in my Father's findings- he went to Canada and searched the church records, grave sites etc. before there was an internet or databases dedicated to genealogy.
I had a genetic test that resulted in a match with Native North-American ancestry- they want more money to tell me which tribe or band- of course ;>)

If we are related ?? No...and Yes. No, we're not cousin or great cousin. Yes, like most Quebecers, we have common ancestors. But we have to look many generations behind. On the Lapolice side, our common ancestors are Jean-Baptiste Bourgery and Marie Gendre ( 10 generations or so ). We could also have nearest common ancestors on the Beatrice Deslauriers side because I have some "Legaut dit Deslauriers" ancestors.
I'm a genealogist and doing this as a hobby ...passion. I am subscribed to Généalogie Québec and also to Ancestry ( Canada ), PRDH and BMS2000.
Inaccuracies are numerous. Often, bad data are published by amateurs who cut corners short. They found data that looks good for their lineage and take it as truth. You must prove the accuracy of your lineage. That's what I did on the Lapolice side with the links I gave you in this discussion.
