Does anyone out there have information on Hermenegilde Marquis? I believe he is the father of my Grandfather Luc Marquis who was born in L'Isle Verte in 1899. I think he was know as Henri later in life rather than Hermenigilde.

1) Joseph Luc Hermenegilde Marquis was born and baptised the 21th july 1899 in L'isle Verte. He is the son of Hermenegilde Marquis and Anna Hudon said Beaulieu. Witnesses were grand parents Achille Marquis and Febronie Simard.

2) Hermenegilde Marquis, son of Achille Marquis and Febronie Simard, married Maria Anna Hudon said Beaulieu, daughter of Pierre Hudon said Beaulieu and Marie Helene Hudon said Beaulieu, the 18 oct 1898 in St-Eloi.

3) Hermenegilde Marquis, son of Achille Marquis and Febronie Simard, was baptised the 21th july 1874 at L'isle Verte. He was born three days earlier.

4) Achille Maquis, son of Narcisse Marquis and Adelaide Lebel, married the 16th of july 1872 at L'isle Verte Febronie Simard, daughter of Francois Simard and Hermine Côté.

          It turns out that my grandfather Luc Marquis was born in 1900 not 1899 as his Attestation paper states. He lied about his age to enlist for World War I. Are you related to Luc? My Mom ( his only daughter ) says that he didn't like to talk about his family and she knows very little about them.

    Thank you for replying. I'm not sure what you meant by the marvelous surprise.

  My grandfather Luc passed away in 1975 when I was twelve. My mom was one of five children of Luc and my grandmother Elmira and was the only girl. She and her two remaining brothers know little about their father's family. Only that Luc left home at an early age when his father Hermenegilde remarried to a girl that was only a few years older than Luc. I don't know how my great grandmother died. Luc was injured in WWI and ended up in an infermery in Saskatchewan after the war and married Elmira in that province and eventually settled in BC.

     Thank you for the information. I have found records with different birth years for my Grandfather Luc, but always with the same day and month. The 1901 cencus states that he was born in 1900, but his attestation paper says it was 1899. I think he lied about his age to qualify to enlist to serve in WW I. Do you have any family connection to these Marquis'? I have a few old photos of Hermenegilde and one I think of his first wife who is my Great Grandmother. I don't know for sure if it is her or not.

     This document must be from church records. I have a hard time reading french, but I understand it is a record of my grandfather's baptism. I recognize the names of his parents and granparents from the other records other members so kindly led me to. Would you happen to know the origin of this document?

     Thanks again for your help. The document that was submitted by Fr is very interesting. I get some of it, but my French isn't very good and the handwriting is hard for me to read. I do see that it is a record of baptism and I regognize the names and dates.

     I've always wanted to know about my French heritage on the Marquis side. Also there is a genetic disorder that my five year old niece is afflicted with that came through that side of our family. My Mom and two of her brothers had/have it also. We are trying to compile a family history so that doctors might better understand it.

    My grandfather Luc Marquis married my grandmother Elmira Goyette in Zenon Park, Saskatchewan. She was Born in Rhode Island to French Canadian parents. After they married they move out to the west coast and settled in Victoria.
