Retourner à la fiche de: William Harper
Name Change: When William began attending school at the Christian Brothers school in Chicago he told Francis Mininni the teacher could not understand the French pronounciation of family name "Arpin." It was written on school records as "Harper." Some of the children continued to use name Arpin for some time, in fact, Eugenie Arpin, last child, apparently used both interchangeably all her life, preferring Arpin. No indication that name was ever changed legally.
The 1885 Chicago directory gives his occupation as "boxmaker" at 27 Moore street, the same address as his father Edmond, and later his widowed mother, Julia Eudacide Hebert.
William Harper's church records from old St Bridget's parish are maintained at St Barbara's Church, 2859 So Throop St, Chicago IL 60608 (secretary Andrea Brongiel - 312-842-7979) LWPG0106.
