Retourner à la fiche de: Pierre Jerome

Born & baptized the same day; parrain, Gervais Decarri; marraine, Emilie Gougeon.

Also known as Peter.

"At the age of fifteen, he worked as a clerk in a general merchandise store at St-Timothée. He pursued that trade until the year 1860, at which time he moved to St-Paul, Minnesota, taking the name of his grandfather, Jerome.

"At the outbreak of the American Civil War, Pierre entered the ranks of the Union as First Sergeant, and held this position until the end of the War."

"During his four years of service, he was known for his bravery in times of danger, and was respected by all his comrades. Although he was not wounded, he suffered sunstroke, which so shattered his nervous system that he trembled the rest of his life. (side note: the modern terminology for this condition is Parkinson's disease.)"

"After the War, he returned to St-Paul and there married Edestée 'Alice' Terrien on January 8, 1866."

"In St-Paul, he entered the shoe business, which trade he followed as long as he was able to work."

He and Alice had five children together: Joseph Émile (1867-1942), Henry (1872-1932), Cora (1875-?), Arthur J. (1877-1940), and Stéphane 'Steven' (1876 or 78-1955).

In the spring of 1911, at the age of 78, Peter and his wife moved to North Yakima in Washington State.

"However, the ardent longing for his former home put a rather abrupt end to his stay, and he returned to St-Paul, where he died in 1914."

- Biography written by Fr Clement Regimbal (1891-1933), son of Fabien, Peter's brother.
