Retourner à la fiche de: Pearl Bartlett
Divorced about 1940.
The attached article was in the "Looking Backward" section of the Watertown Daily Times on November 11th. I heard this story many times while growing up, so it's just amazing to me to see it in print. That little girl, of course, was Aunt Pearl. Grandpa Bartlett (Ellis) was five years old at the time. In my memory, it seems they said that Aunt Pearl was eleven. Back then, my grandparents would go to neighboring farms and worked for extra money to live on; thus explaining their absence. My Dad said he remembered standing in the snow in his bare feet watching the house burn. I know they rebuilt, but have no idea where they stayed until they had another home.

November 11, 1907: The presence of mind of the little daughter of Frank Bartlett saved the younger children from flames that destroyed the Bartlett home while the parents were absent last Friday. The family resides near Moon Lake, about four miles from Theresa. The girl carried the 1-1/2-year-old out, then returned for the next older ones, who were also marshaled to safety. She ran to the Milton Cook place and gave the alarm. Help reached the place too late to save anything.
