Omer J. Beaudoin, age 89, of Manchester, died Sunday, December 25, 2005 at the Greenbriar Healthcare Center in Nashua after an extended period of declining health caused by Alzheimer's Disease.
Mr. Beaudoin was born on June 17, 1916 in Manchester, the son of the late Egide and Marie (Laverne) Beaudoin. He was a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School. He worked as a machinist for the Public Service Company and later as a life insurance salesman for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for many years before opening Beaudoin’s General Store on Varney Street in Manchester.
He was a charter member of the Pinardville Lions Club, a fourth degree Knight of Columbus and, at different times in his life, a member of St. Edmond’s, St. Raphael’s, and Sacred Heart parishes. He was a former active member of the St. Jean the Baptist’s men’s choir where his baritone voice was called upon for many a wedding and funeral service. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing and,after retiring, he became a prolific woodworker. After retiring from the store, he and his wife lived in Palm Springs, CA for nine years before returning to NH.
Mr. Beaudoin was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers and sisters, a son, Marcel in 1964, and a grandchild, Jacob in 1979.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years; Jeannette M. (Laverdiere) Beaudoin, nine children, Omer F. Beaudoin and his wife Dolores, of Manchester, Denise Goltz of Denver CO, Alice Benard and her husbandThomas, of Manchester, Victor Beaudoin and his wife Barbara, of Raymond NH, Martha Derosier and her husband Richard of Santa Clara UT, Charles Beaudoin and his wife Joy Adam, of Murray Hill NJ, PaulBeaudoin and his wife Celeste, of Manchester, Yvette Dexter and her husband Harvey, of Slidell LA, and Claire Saladin and her husband Vincent, of Essex Junction VT. He is also survived by two brothers; David and Lucien Beaudoin, both of CA; and two sisters, Theresa Gauthier of Goffstown and the Rev. Sister Majella Beaudoin of Quebec Canada. He also leaves behind 25 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2005 at the Goodwin Funeral Home, 607 Chestnut Street. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St.Raphael Catholic Church at 103 Walker St. The Reverend Father Jerome J. Day will officiate.
