Retourner à la fiche de: Marie-Onesime Chartrand

Pierre and Onésime (Chartrand) Sicard are found married and living with Pierre's family in Ottawa on the 1871 Census of Canada. They are also living in Ottawa with their own family and Onesime's mother, Henriette (Grignon) Chartrand, on the 1881 Census of Canada.

On the 1891 Census of Canada, the family is found living at L'Orignal, Prescott County, Ontario. Their last known child, Olesime-Marie-Clarente Sicard, was baptized at St-Jean-Baptiste, St. Hyacinthe—Rouville, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada on 14 Jan 1893.

The Sicards apparently immigrated as a family group to Michigan sometime after Clarente's baptism in Jan 1893. The Sicard family is NOT found on the 1894 Michigan State Census, however, not all county census records remain (including two Michigan counties where the Sicards are later found, Houghton and Luce Counties, which records did not survive). The Sicard family had definitely arrived in Michigan by 1897, since daughter, Almina, married Abraham Couture in Luce County, Michigan, on 02 Aug 1897.

These events support the Sicard family immigration to the USA between the time of Clarente's baptism at Quebec (14 Jan 1893) and Almina's marriage in Michigan (02 Aug 1897).

The Sicard family is found living at Hancock, Houghton County, Michigan, on the 1900 US Federal Census. Onésime (traditionally, a given name for males) sees many variations in the spelling of her name. Here, it appears as Olezine. Onésime's census entry records that she is the mother of 14 children, 8 living, at the time of the 1900 Census. The identities of twelve of those children have thus far been established.

Onésime’s husband, Pierre Sicard, was a plumber and died at Hancock in 1915, indexed under the name Peter Sicord (seekingmichigan.org). Peter's death record shows his status was “Married” at the time of his death, so Onésime is presumably alive. The date and location of Onesime’s death have not yet been discovered, but she would have likely lived with one of her children after Peter’s death and probably died in the USA.
