With much sorrow, we announce the passing of Marcel Gauthier who peacefully slipped away in his 89th year with family by his side at St. Joseph’s Villa, on the morning of Monday, January 10th, 2011.
Marcel was a gentle, generous, loving man who was devoted to his family. He loved children, animals, laughter and music. He will be sorely missed by his loving wife of 68 years, Aline, his two sons, Jean-Robert (Francoise Ouellet) and Maurice (Christine Manners) and his daughter Justice Louise Gauthier (Jim McGarry). Marcel is survived by his sisters Estelle Gauthier and Vivian Mansfield (Fred predeceased), his sister-in-law Molly (Real predeceased) and his brother-in-law Don McLellan (Lily predeceased). He was predeceased by his parents Edouard and Eulalia (Kelly), his sister Lorraine Berlingeri (Ralph) and Gil (Elsie). Proud grandfather of Marie-Christine (Evan MacDonald), Andre Gauthier, Philippe Gauthier, Emma Gauthier, Chanelle Gauthier, Christine Chevrier (Alain), Jeff McGarry (Sara Kunto). Great grandfather of Hannah, Miryam, Marguerite and Ryann. He will be sadly missed by numerous nieces and nephews.
Prior to moving to Sudbury in 2002, Marcel spent 42 happy years raising his family in Smooth Rock Falls where he worked for many years at the Hudson Bay Company as the grocery manager. He then went on to own and operate The Grill Restaurant followed by Marcel Gauthier Insurance prior to his retirement. Marcel was very active in the Smooth Rock Falls community, having served on the town council, High School Board, Children’s Aid Society, Homes for the Aged, North Claybelt Development Corporation and as a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus council 3392.
