Louis was the son of Hilaire Landry and Suzanne Ethier. He married Julia Peltier, daughter of Antoine and Eleanor Peltier, 7 Sep 1869 in Champlain, Clinton County, New York.

Louis and Julia moved to Aroma, Kankakee County, Illinois shortly after they were married. In 1874, they moved to Kansas and located on a farm near St. Joseph.

Family stories reveal Louis left Kansas about 1903. He left for California with a wagon train at the time of the gold rush.
