Léonard, Georges Maurice - With sadness, the Leonard family announce the death of Georges Maurice Léonard at Hastings Manor in Belleville on Sept 18, 2016 at the age of 99. Born in Cartierville, Quebec, he was the eldest of nine children of Georges and Albertine Léonard of Montreal North. With the outbreak of war in September of 1939, Maurice immediately enlisted in the Royal Canadian Artillery and volunteered for the 27th Battery First Canadian Anti-Tank Regiment, RCA. He was one of the first Canadians to ship overseas with the First Canadian Division. Later he was selected for officer training ending the war with the rank of Captain. He returned to Canada in 1946 with his English war bride, Jean Frances Collins. The couple lived for 53 years in Saint Bruno, Quebec. Maurice worked most of his career for Dow Brewery, retiring as Director of Procurement for Carling O'Keefe. Maurice and Jean moved to Belleville in 2011 to be closer to family. They marked their 72nd wedding anniversary on July 1, 2016. Maurice was predeceased by his wife, his parents and seven siblings.
