Note du pripriétaire de l'arbre
My grandfather, Joseph walked from Canada as a young man to find work in Maine (Livermore Falls). He and his cousin eventually bought the farm in Belgrade. Joseph bought his cousin's share and it's been in the family ever since. He changed his french name Asselin to Ashland because people couldn't pronounce or spell it. My father, Albert (Joseph's son) took over the farm in 1927. Joseph had very curly hair and had a habit of twirling one of his curls around his finger when he was sitting and thinking. My grandmother, Mary, was angry with him one day and walked up behind him and cut the curl off!!! I'm sure that went over well! He had a temper. He was an excellent cabinet maker and made a lot of the furniture at that time for the home. He used to take me out to see the moon (according to Mom - Nora "Doris" Libby Ashland). My first word was spoken to him -- of course the word was MOON!
