Jerry grew up on a farm in Soulange, Quebec close to the Ontario border. He married at the age of 24 to Emma Quesnel and had 10 children. With his last child, his wife died shortly after childbirth.
As a widower, he found it hard to look after a household and farm chores and ended up marring a widow, Margaret McDonald, on 6 Feb 1900. She was the former Mrs. D. B. McDonald and had two sons Hugh 8 and Archie 14. She died in 24-Mar-1915.
The 1901 census shows his dad Louis, now 83, had moved in with them. Joseph, who was 18 by then had probably left home at that time.
Jerry was kicked in the head by one of his horses while working on road improvement south of Kemptville. He later died of his injury in the Kemptville hospital. He is buried at the Sacred Heart Cemetary in Alexandria, Ont
