James and Annie got separated after their daughter Jane's birth in 1872 and before January 2,1883, when Annie's father John Gurry made a testament where he did mention the fact (Notary records of Samuel-Isidore Glackmeyer, available on the internet throught the province of Quebec's Nationale Archives- It seems James' relationship with his father-in-law wasn't good by the way...). They were still living separately in 1891 acc. to the census. Their daughter Jane, heir of her grandfather, has by mistake be inscribed as a male named «James» in the 1881 census.
