DEATH CLAIMS AGED PIONEER
Mrs Benjamin Nault, of Ste. Rose du Lac Passes Away
Requiem High Mass was celebrated at Ste. Rose du Lac chapel this morning for Mrs Benjamin Nault, an elder pioneer of Manitoba and member of one of its first families, who died at her home in Ste. Rose on Tuesday.
Mrs Nault was born in St. Vital 91 years ago, the daughter of Hon. Solomon Hamelin, a prominent figure in Manitoba politics of that day. She and her husband, who died several years ago, farmed for many years in the municipality of St. Vital, moving 36 years ago to Ste. Rose. Her brother-in-law, Andre Nault, grandson of Jean-Baptiste Lagimoniere, famous runner of Red River, died shortly before Christmas.
Mrs Nault was the mother of 16 children, of whom seven sons and four daughters survive. Joseph Hamelin, M.L.A., is her nephew. Five generations of this pioneer family are living, numbering 210 descendants.
Mrs Nault was buried this morning in the family plot, beside her husband, in the cemetery of Ste. Rose.
