As all of us know George Lalonde our father was the best father we could have chosen. He married Rose as a young 20 years old handsome man and started a big family while working long hours at his father’s bakery. If I remember well he worked 42 years 6 nights a week from 1:30 a.m.till noon. Some nights he worked from 4:00 a.m. and came home to help take care of us. I remember my dad playing with us. He even came swimming in the quarry with us. Then he worked in the huge garden in the back of the house.

We all remember George riding a bicycle and often with one of us on the bar.

He was a good man even with his love for his beers and friends in his younger days. I really know that he loved his Rose and his children. He was a quiet man who did not talk much. I remember him sitting in his rocking chair near the big old radio with Gérard and I on each an armrest. I also remember him asking me my school homework after supper while rocking away.

I still smile when I think of George in his chair, and all of us younger kids and Rose kneeling in the dining room at 7 p.m. saying the beads with Monsignor Paul Emile Léger on the old radio. Here and there he would whisper…Lucile or Gérard…that meant be quiet.

George lived a good long life and now rests in Heaven with his Rose and other children. He earned every moment of peace he now gets. Rest in peace Papa George and thank you for being the simple and loving you.
