Known as Fred, he and his new wife Mary and her 11 year old brother Albert emigrated to America from Prussia in 1854.

The family lived in Buffalo, New York prior to making a permanent home in Michigan where he became a substantial and prosperous farmer.

Fred and both of his wives are buried under the same monument at Oakwood Cemetery in Bennington, Michigan.
