Per Civil War discharge papers: Born at St Mary (Ste Marie) Canada. This is at extreme northern tip of Beauce County.
Per discharge paper from Company A, 37th Regiment, Illinois Veteran Infantry: Enrolled 10th of February, 1864 [age 19]; was 21 years of age when discharged, May 15, 1866 [b.1845], 5 ft, 9 inches tall, dark complexion, dark hair, black eyes. Occupation at enlistment: Farmer. Born St Mary [Ste Marie] in Canada East. On back of discharge is stamped: State of Illinois, Cook County, Filed for record, Sept 23, 1932, 10 a.m., and recorded in Page 505, Book 29051, Clayton F Smith recorder. In pencil on side is wriitten "Arnston - 876." [Arnston - Eugenie Arpin-Harper, posthomus daughter of Edmond Arpin, married Otto Arnston].

CHI death certificate says died as result of an accident Dec 26, 1887 (other records say Dec 27) - thrown from wagon at 27 Moore street. On Sept 25, 1896, in an affidavit certifying to the loss of her pension rights as a reult of her re-marriage, 21 Eudacide Hebert Arpin Wood, Edmond's widow, gives her address as 27 Moore St. Actually Edmond's accident was between 161th and 18th and Blue Ave.; apparently he was taken home to die. On July 20, 1890, in an affidavit applying for a widow's pension for Eudacide Hebert Arpin two witnesses are 11 Nellie [Curran] Harper and 10 William H Curran, both residing at 701 Centre Ave CHI IL, who testify that they knew of Edmond's death "..from the fact that .. both present at his death." How far is 27 Moore St from 701 Centre Ave. and from 18th and Blue Ave? Moore St no longer exists and since 1909 Centre is now Racine. Ellen "Nell" Curran did not marry Will Harper until Oct 1888, almost a year after Edmond's death. Date of Edmond Napoleon Harper's marriage to Molly Curran UNK but believed to be about 1890. Minnie Arpin married Jim Curran in 1896. Obviously the Arpins and the Currans were very well acquainted. Noteworthy is the fact that Nell (Curran) Harper and William H Curran resided at the same address. Duplex? CHI is full of them.
