Served five years in the Royal Canadian Navy (rank of Leading Seaman) with action during the Korean War followed by five years in the postwar Militia. Sailed the Pacific and the Atlantic oceans while a member of the Navy.

He was a member of the Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans in Canada Organization, The Royal Canadian Legion, and the Plumbers and Steamfitters UA Local 46.

Dean died in an automobile accident in route to home in Alton from work in Toronto in 1968.

At 20 moved to the big city (Toronto) and took a job at Birks. Then won the heart of Dean and four kids later moved back to the country side - Alton and Orangeville.

Remarried in 1978 to James Marvin Thayer, a schoolyard chum of Deneen's in the '40s.
