C. M. (Charles Moïse) Melancon was born near Montreal, Canada, December 28, 1832. Came to Little Canada and started a blacksmith shop in 1856, in which business he continued until 1870. He then bought eighty acres, and commenced cultivating fruits and vegetables, having a dairy in connection. Is a prominent man in the township, having held many offices of trust. Married in 1861, Lydia A. Clewett of St. Paul, whose father was the first white man married in the town, having first located there in 1832. They are the parents of nine children, eight of whom are living.
