Louis Ephrem "Alfred" Ruel, son of Anselme Ruel and Marie Therrien, was baptized on 25 Mar 1873 at St Julien, Wolfestown, Wolfe, Québec, Canada. He immigrated with his family to the United States in 1887 and settled in Biddeford, York, Maine, where he married Olivine Guay. Alfred was naturalized on 2 Mar 1895. The couple returned to Canada by 1901 and raised their family in St Isidore. Alfred was widowed in 1929 and returned to Biddeford from St Isidore three years before his death on Saturday, 11 May 1935. He was interred on 14 May 1935 in St Joseph's Cemetery.
Alfred was survived by six sons, Joseph, Alfred, and Eugène of St Isidore, and Honoré, Arthur, and Roméo of Biddeford. He was also survived by five daughters, Delvina (Mrs Pierre) Fortier of South Troy Vermont, Mrs Armand Lepine of Montréal, Rose (Mrs Romeo) Goulet of Graniteville Vermont, Yvonne (Mrs Arthur) Lahaie of Coaticook Québec, and Alice Ruel of Biddeford. In addition, survivors included three siblings, Samuel and Joseph Ruel of Biddeford and Mrs Pierre Lamothe of North Kennebunkport.
