Biographie Houde Francois-Xavier
"In 1905 the Houde family all moved to Hillyard, Washington (just outside of Spokane) and there is a photo in our album of Charles with Theophile and the family on the Houde "ranch". In the R.L. Polk and Co's Spokane City Directory 1906 we find listed Houde Charles, broommker h. 0701 1/2 Maple and Houde Theophile. lab, h 0710 1/2 Maple. I assume the numbers refer to houses on Maple. Charles is not listed on United States Census, 1910 Washington, Spokane Wayside ED 131 as living with Theophile and family.
About 1915 the family moved by wagon from Spokane, Washington to The Dallas, Oregon where they stated until 1923 when Theophile's wife, Albertine Houde nee Julien, moved the family to Portland, Oregon. (The oldest daughter, Marie-Anna-Alfrida Houde married in 1916 and she and her husband George Kenneth Reilly stayed in The Dalles until moving to Bickelton Washington sometime between Sometime between1924 and 1930).
About 1916 Theophile deserted the family and he moved back to Spokane, Washington where he died in 1943. Theophile is buried in Dartford, Cemetery just outside of Spokane Washington. Some online sources list his death date as 1913 but they do not have the correct information.
I am not sure when Charles bought his land in Bull Run, Oreg on but he owned it by 1931 when his nephew, JOSEPH XAVIER ADRIEN HOUDE aka Adrien. and wife Beulah along with their young daughter moved in with him. They moved back to Portland a year or two later. Eventually Charles sold the land to Theophile and Albertine's daughter - his God-daughter - Maria-Adelaid-Adria Houde and her husband Thomas Earl Fitzgerald. They later sold the land to the Camp Fire and it is now part of Camp Numanu and is called the Ranch where horsemanship is the major focus.
Charles, age 14, is listed in the 1881 Canadian Census St-Mary's Ward, Montreal (City), Quebec, Canada and the 1891 Canadian Census.
Charles was an albino. He died from cancer December 1941 in Portland, Oregon USA. Per cemetery records he was buried December 26, 1941 at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Portland, Oregon in section F3 - (a very steep hillside). When Charlie died the family was too poor to buy him a head stone so his grave is unmarked.
He never married but lived with or near his brother, Theophile Houde, and took care of the family while Theophile was gone. In 1896 the Houde family moved from Montreal to Clontarf, Minnesota and I believe Charles lived with Theophile and the family then.
He is also found in two Oregon records."
