Biographie Smith Robert-Somme

He was named Somme after the battle of the Somme during the First World War.

At the onset of the Second World War,he joined the Canadian Army and voluntered to serve in the FIST SPECIAL SERVICE FORCE also known as The Black devils.That unit was a Canadian and American special commando .He served in evrey battles of the FSFF and was mentionned in dispatches for his actions in January of 1944.In 2005,the US military awarded him and his brothers in Arms,the Combat Infantry Badge and he should have received the Bronze Star.unfortunately,he had passed away by then and the Bronze star cannot be awarded postumely.

After the war,he joined Westinghouse in Canada and became a lighting specialist.

He passed away under difficult and yet unexplained circumstances at Ste-Anne's veterans hospital
