Moved From Norway in 1912 Start-up of Wayagamack Pulp Mill
Final tribute was paid Monday afternoon to Oskar Olsen, who passed away at home after an illness Thursday morning, December 30, 1965, in his 87th year. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. W. Chas. Pelletier, of St. Andrew's United Church.
One of a group of Norwegians who came to Three Rivers in the spring of 1912 to start up the Wayagamack pulp mill, Mr. Olsen was a native of Moss, Norway. In 1916, he joined the St. Maurice Paper Co., and stayed with that firm until it closed down in 1930. Later he was with Page Construction Co. until he retired ten years ago.
Hunting, fishing and reading were his principal interests and he was for many years a member of the Lac Brule Club. He had also fished and hunted extensively in the Riviere-a-Pierre and Vandry regions.
A widower, his wife nee Sigvarda Simonsen, also of Moss, Norway, predeceased him nine years ago to the day of his passing. Surviving are a married son Harry, and two sisters, Mrs. Alfred (Ellen) Anderson, of Albany N.Y., and Mrs. H. (Hedvik) Noelck, of Los Angeles, Calif. Grandchildren are Mrs. W. R. McDougall, Marc Page, and Elina, Harold and Karen Olsen, all of this city.
Burial was in the family plot in Forest Hill Cemetery.
The Chronicle extend sincere sympathy to the bereaved.
