Biographie Gaucher George
George is the son of Léandre Gaucher et Délima Mercier (1). He was born in Massachusetts on March 7, 1878 (2).
George's mother was born in Canada around July 1845 (3) and was the daughter of Joseph Mercier and Marie Lafrance (4). George’s parents were married around 1867 (I've not been able to find the wedding act yet) and immigrated in USA around 1868; they had 9 children but only 6 were alive in 1900; Délima was a widow in 1900 (3). In 1900, Délima was living at 42 ½ Congress Street in Salem, Mass. with 4 children still single (Elzéar-Joseph, George, Henri-Joseph and Sophronie) (3). Details on the children follow at the end of this section. Delima died at the age of about 60 on Feb. 7, 1906 in Salem, Mass.; she was then residing at 10 Park St. in Salem, Mass. (4).
As previously stated, in 1900, George was living at 42 ½ Congress Street in Salem, Mass. with his mother, 2 brothers and one sister; he was working as a “laster” (3). In 1910, George was living with her sister Sophronie and his brother-in-law Laurent Cyr, at 27 Congress Street in Salem, Mass. (5) In 1918, George was living at 41 Ward St. in Salem, Mass. and was a shoe worker; the nearest relative he indicated was his brother Elzéar, 38 Peabody Street, Salem, Mass.; George signed George Goucher (6).
George married Anna Cyr around 1929 (7). In 1930, the couple lived at 37 Ward Street in Salem, Mass. and they worked in a shoe shop (8).
George's known siblings (from the 1900 Census):
Elzéar Joseph was born in Massachusetts (9) on March 27, 1876 (10). He married Marie C. Marquis, daughter of David Marquis and Célina Lévesque, born in Canada around 1884; she immigrated in USA with her family from L'Isle-Verte, Qc, Canada, around 1885 (11). In 1918, Elzéar Joseph and Marie C. were living in an apartment building at 38 Peabody Street, Salem, Mass. (12). In 1920, Elzéar and Marie lived with their daughter at 38 Peabody St., Salem, Mass. ; the household comprised also Arthur Marquis (Marie's brother) and a certain Laura Côté, a widow, and her daughter Ida Côté (Laura being the "sister" of either Elzéar or Marie C.); Henry Joseph, Elzéar's brother, lived in the same apartment building at that time (26). Marie died in 1922; at that time, she and Elzéar Joseph were still living at 38 Peabody Street (11). Marie's mother passed away in 1902 in Salem; her father passed away in 1924 in Salem; he was then a widow and residing at 38 Peabody St. in Salem, the same bulding as Marie and Elzéar (24).

(16). Henri Joseph died in Salem in 1954 and Jennie M., in Salem in 1965; they lie in St. Mary's cemetary (17).
