The Late Prosper Maynard
The death occurred in the early hours of Thursday, June 4th, of a well-known resident of Covey Hill, Mr. Prosper Maynard. Three years ago, Mr, Maynard suffered a severe heart attack and, although he made a good recovery, this meant retiring from his work in Montreal and curtailing many of his activities at home. However he remained his jovial, cheerful self right to the end, despite recurring attacks.
Mr, Maynard, who was 72 in October, 1963, was born on Covey Hill, the son of Joseph Maynard and Ida Ankell. In his youth he farmed with his father until 1910 when, on the 7th June, he married Emma Bourdon of Havelock and settled on the farm on the Covey Hill Road where he passed the rest of his life. He worked 18 years for Mr. Willie Stewart, at the Butter Factory on the corner of the Fort Road. When this closed down he remained on his farm until the death of his mother and then worked in Montreal for the Quebec Liquor Commission for about seven years, until his health forced him to retire. Mr. Maynard was a lover of good horses and was never happier than when driving his buggy with a good horse or when working with a good team.
His funeral took place in Hemmingford, on Saturday, June 6th, the Requiem Mass was celebrated at St. Romain's Church by the Rev. Caron Corriveau assisted by two White Fathers from St.Bernard.
