Biographie Vachon Bertrand-Valere

AUGUSTA - Bertrand V. Vachon, age 91, of Trueworthy Avenue, and formerly of Lewiston, died July 24, 2014, at Maine Veterans Home in Augusta after an extended illness. He was born in Brunswick on Feb. 3, 1923, the son of Wilfred J. Vachon and Alexina (LaBel) Vachon.

Mr. Vachon was educated in Brunswick Schools and served honorably as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 25 years by Knapp Shoe Co. of Lewiston.

Mr. Vachon was a member of St. Michael Parish at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Augusta. His hobbies and interests included hunting, fishing and gardening. He participated in a moose hunt at the age of 88 with his son and grandson.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Joan (Dostie) Vachon.

Surviving is his wife, Muriel (Melanson) Levesque Vachon, of Augusta; one son, Roger Vachon and his wife, Sue, of West Paris; one stepson, Marc Levesque and his wife, Kate, of Augusta; three stepdaughters: Anne Boucher and her husband, Yvon, of Augusta, Gloria Farrington and her husband, Fred, of Sidney, and Lisa Cunningham and her husband, Stephen, of Hallowell; one brother, Russell Vachon, of Port Richey, Fla.; one sister, Venise Morin and her husband, Joe, of Lewiston; two grandsons, Dennis Vachon and his wife, Sherry, and Danny Vachon and his wife Ronnie-Sue; several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.

At his request, there will be no public visiting hours. Committal prayers with military honors will be offered in the chapel at St. Peter's Cemetery, 81 Deer Road, Lewiston.

Memorial donations may be made to Maine Veterans Home, Activities Fund, 310 Cony Road, Augusta, ME 04330. Arrangements are in the care of Plummer Funeral Home/ (Kennebec Journal 7/26/2014)
