Biographie Veilleux Bernadette

Bernadette (nicknames include Bee and Beecodette) was born in 1906. She was the daughter of Albert Veilleux and Marie Doyon. She passed away in 1999.

She is living in Beauce, Quebec, Canada on 15 June 1911, at the time of the Fifth Census of Canada. She's five years old, Catholic.

The last grade she attends is 8th grade.[1]

In March of 1923, at 16 years old, she crossed the Canada-US border at the Port of St John West, New Brunswick with her parents and all her siblings. She was listed as single, with the family heading to Waterville, Maine.

She first marries Robert LeBourdais, sometime before 1930. The have a son, Robert LeBourdais, 3 years old at the time of the 1930 US Census.[2]

Sometime before April 1, 1935, she leaves Robert and moves to New York City. She and her son are found listed in the 1940 US Census living in New York City, New York. She is 34 years old, without work for the 8 weeks prior to the Census, but seeking work as a singer. Also living with her and son Robert, now 13 years old and having completed 7th grade, is Joseph Berube. Joseph is listed as a lodger working as a chef at a drug store.[3]

At some point, possibly in 1949, Bee marries Rene Berube. It is uncertain at this time if this is the same person as the 1940 lodger, Joseph Berube. However, Rene was a chef, and also continued to work as a chef well into retirement at Sun City.[4]

Along with many of her siblings, she is a talented artist. She sings and plays piano, entertaining long into retirement age in Sun City. She and her second husband, Rene Berube, live for some time in Las Vegas, NV, where he is a chef and she entertains, before moving to Sun City, where they continue in the same vein.
