Biographie Mayer Lucy-Alphonsine-Leontine
From: Catherine Theresa Tracey
From an early age, Lucy knew there had to be more that life had to offer than being a domestic in Wolf Lake. She like to recall the story of how she met her husband, John Gibbons. She said there was a handsome Irish man that came to visit the owner of the house where she worked. He spoke to her on his visits and she tried her best to respond, having very little English. After several visits he asked her to go for a ride in his buggy and he proposed. Lucy said yes, set the date and ordered a new suit and button up boots from the catalogue. They were married and headed out to North Onslow. Lucy said she was a little apprehensive driving for so long through the bush, having never been out of Wolf Lake. Her fears disappeared once they arrived in North Onslow, and John Gibbons turned the horse and buggy up the laneway towards a two-story house. They were home.
