Biography Castonguay Pierre-Basile

Biography Castonguay Pierre-Basile

Pierre and Louise were apparently part of the original settlement of Castonia, Maine, sometime around 1845. I beleive possibly only Pierre, as her death occurred in 1844, with burial record in St Roch, L'Islet, Quebec. It did not mention her dying in Maine and body being returned for burial. His sons Louis Jonas, Pierre and Magloire all appear in the 1870 Census(8.31.1870) of Aroostook County, Maine, Unincorporated Plantation on the Upper St John River, above St Francis. Their first names and surname were anglicized on Census, and the surname became Castonie. The settlement began with the "Castonie Farm", for which Cstonia was named. The area was demolished in 1899 by huge spring floods, most residents selling property to large lumber companies.

Pierre and Louise lost 10 of their 15 children within a year or less of their birth.
