Biographie Proulx Raymond-Cleophas

Raymond Cleophas "Cabbage" Proulx, 85, of Ivy Terrace and Mercy Healthcare Center in Tupper Lake, died Sunday, December 14, 2003 at tHfe Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born July 14, 1918 on 8 Deer Street, Tupper Lake, one of 12 born to Ephrem and Clarina (LaFave) Proulx, he grew up in Tupper Lake and attended Holy Ghost Academy. As a young man he worked at the Adirondack Bakery and for a while at Sunmount.

On November 21, 1938, he and Rosalie Delia Charette were married at St. Paul's Church in Plercefield by Rev. JL Desjardin. Cabbage served in the Army of the United States and received an honorable discharge in 1944. He had worked at Benson Mines from 1954 until 1968. Throughout the 1960's, Cabbage tended bar at the Waukesha on Big Tupper Lake. He was a seasonal chef at the Wawbeek, the Veteran Mountain Camp on Paradise Point and the Men's Infirmary. His most recent work as cook was for the Horseshoe Hunting Club.

Cabbage fondly remembered delivering Coca-Cola for Frenette Bros., picking up golf balls and growing lomatoes at Mercy Healthcare. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Rosalie of Tupper Lake; five daughters, Rayalda and her husband, Richard fiance of Bennington. VT; Margarett and her husband, Hubert Boudreau of Tupper Lake: Barbara and her husband Felix Hinqjosa of Jacksonville, FL; Colleen DeGrace of Saranac Lake, and Mary and her husband. Steve Simpson of San Antonio, IX one son, James Proulx and his wife, Patricia of Watertown, NY; one brother, Rolland (Tapsy) Proulx and his wife, Doris of Tupper Lake; 19 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by six sisters, Dorothy Redinger, Florence Hinchman, Florentine Roscoe, Lucille Brady, Joan Pepino, Ella Rodriguez, and four brothers, Homer, Leo, Randolph, and Robert. Calling hours will be held at the Richer Funeral Home today (Wednesday, December 17) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Name Church at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 18. Burial with full military honors will be held in May 2004.
