Oliver Proulx 73, is fatally injured on logging job

WELL-KNOWN TUPPER LUMBERMAN PASSES AWAY THIS MORNING IN MERCY GENERAL HOSPITAL

Oliver Proulx, 73, veteran of more than a half-century as an Adirondack lumberman, died in Mercy General Hospital here at 9:45 o'clock this morning of injuries sustained late yesterday afternoon, on an Oval Wood Dish logging job In the Kildare sector. Mr. Proulx had been employed for the past three weeks on the job where the Oval Wood Dish is getting out 10,000 cords of pulpwood from its lands, for delivery to the St Regis Paper Co. After finishing his day's work Mr. Proulx and his brother, Cyprian Proulx, Faust, were felling a tree after supper when the top snapped off,, according to early reports received here, and fell, striking him on the head. The accident occurred about 6 p. m. He was rushed by truck 18 miles to Tupper and was admitted to the hospital aboub 8:30 p. m. Death was caused by a fracture of the skull, with hemorrhage.

Mr. Proulx was born at Chenierville, (sic) Que. on April 28, 1869 (fuzzy printing here), the son of Cyprien and Julia Bedard Proulx. He came to Tupper Lake about 50 years ago, and had since been active in lumbering work. In the employ of the Santa Clara Lumber Co.. the International Paper Co.. and as an independent jobber.

On August 2S. 1897 (again fuzzy) he was married at Curran, Ont. to Miss Fidelia Edith Duford. who survives.Surviving also are two sons, Roy. of White Plains, NY, and Romeo, of Lake Placid; four daughters. Miss Juliet Proulx and Miss Rena Proulx of Tupper Lake, teachers tn the local public schools; Miss Veronica Proulx, Lake Placid, and Mrs. Gertrude Hurley of Jersey City, NJ.; also two brothers, Cyprien, of Faust, and Fred, Tupper Lake.

Funeral service will be Saturday morning at 9 o'clock at St Alphonsus Church. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery
