Joseph St. Onge Glen Robertson dies

One of Glen Robertson’s oldest and most esteemed residents died at his home Monday night in the person of Joseph St. Onge. A resident of Glengarry throughout almost all his lifetime, Mr. St. Onge had resided in Glen Robertson for the past 35 years and was held in high regard by Glen folks. He was aged 88.

Born at Beauhamois, Que., May 8th, 1865, he came to the 3rd con. Lochiel as a child and had farmed there until moving into Glen Robertson. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Antoine St.Onge.

Widely known and admired for his many fine traits of character, Joseph St. Onge was a lifelong Liberal and he liked to recall the occasion a few years ago when he was photographed with the late Prime Minister Mackenzie King at a political rally in Alexander Hall. He was a great lover of horses and took pride in his animals.

Mr. St. Onge was twice married, first to Emma Laurin and, following her death, to Martine Poirier, who survives together with two sons and six daughters. They are Philip St. Onge, proprietor of the Glengarry Hotel at Glen Robertson; Josephat, of Massena, N.Y.; Mrs. Emma Levert, Alexandria; Mrs. Henri Lalonde of Glen Robertson; Mrs. Clarisse Paris of Montreal; Misses Josephine and Augustine St. Onge, Montreal; Rev. Sr. Angele de la Croix of Cartierville, Que.

One brother and one sister also survive, Henri St. Onge of Fulton, N.Y. ;  Mrs. Leandre Leblanc of Alexandria.

The funeral was held this morning to St. Martin of Tours church and cemetery, Glen Robertson.
