Biographie Vincent Philippe
Texte venant de: News Paper Archives, Lowell-Sun (avec corrections grammaires) Décédé le 28 mars 1934, Lowell. Mr. Vincent, who came here as a young man, returned to Québec in 1883 to marry Cordelia Legare in her native village of Roxton Falls. The couple then went to New-York where Mr. Vinent spent a year as a bridge worker, returning afterward to Lowell. Upon his return here, Mr. Vincent, with his brother, Louis P. Vincent, established a grocery, butcher shop and bakery, at Tucker and Ward streets, which for 26 years, as Vincent Bros., was to be one of the leading mercantile establishements of the city. Out of the profits of this enterprise, the brothers, in 1900, erected the five-story brick building at Alken and Moody streets known as the Vincent block. The building became the social center for pratically all French-American activities in the city. Mr. Vincent retired from business five years ago. The Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, where Mr. Vincent was a faithful attendant, was the scene last August of a golden wedding celebration for Mr. and Mrs. Vincent, where impressive cérémonies were held, followed by a reception at the Vincent home. Mr. Vincent is survived by his wife, one son, William Vincent; two daughters, the Misses Juliette and Cecile Vincent, all at this city, and nine grandchildren. Mr. Vincent was a member of the Holy Name society of his parish and of the Royal Arcanum.
