Damase Ruel, son of Laurent Ruel and Marie Anne Roy, was born and baptized on 23 Apr 1844 at Sainte Claire, Dorchester, Québec, Canada. He married Matilde Beaudoin, daughter of Aléxandre Beaudoin and Angèle Paquet, on 11 Feb 1868 at Saint Malachie, Dorchester. They were the parents of a daughter. Damase was widowed in 1870. His second marriage was to Louise Maure, daughter of Louis Maure and Victoire Garant, on 29 May 1871 at Sainte Marguerite, Dorchester. He fathered at least thirteen children with Louise and was widowed for the second time in 1890. Damase married Angèle Brochu, daughter of David Brochu and Flavie Dubord, on 30 Oct 1893 at Saint Léon de Standon, Dorchester. He was widowed again in 1907. Damase immigrated to the United States and settled in New Hampshire. He died at the age of 73 and was interred in the "Glenwood Tomb" in Littleton, Grafton, New Hampshire on 9 Feb 1918.
