Généalogie McCann Madeline McCann Madeline "Sis" McCann, 75, 305 Second Ave. N.W., Mandan, died Oct. 10, 1995, at her home. A lifelong educator, Madeline McCann was a 1968 inductee in the state Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with burial in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m to 9 p.m. Sunday at Weigel Funeral Home, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday, followed by a parish vigil at 7:30. Sis was born in Moorhead, Minn., to Frank G. and Madaline C. (Hovel) McCann, July 12, 1920. She graduated from Mandan High School in 1938 and from Dickinson State College in 1940. She taught at Halliday Public School from 1940 to 1942. She taught school at Mandan Syndicate School from 1942 to 1944. Sis stayed home raising the five younger brothers and sisters until they graduated from high school, and she continued to support them in achieving their college education. She started teaching again in the fall of 1955. She taught at Mary Stark, Central, and Lewis and Clark elementary schools. She received her bachelor's degree in teaching from Valley City State in 1967 and her master's degree in education from the University of North Dakota in 1969. She taught at Mary Stark until she retired in May of 1983. Sis served as president of Mandan Education Association, North Dakota Council of Teachers of Mathematics and served on the National Math Grant Awards Commission. Sis was inducted into the North Dakota Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame in 1968. She started women's fast pitch softball in Mandan. From 1950-1960, she coached teams as well as played. Sis was president of Mandan Bowling Association and was a member of the 600 Club. Madeline is survived by five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Joseph, Dickinson, Ernest and Phyllis, Belmont, Calif., Frank and Lucile, Aurora, Colo., Thomas and Trish, Monterey, Calif., and Patrick and Marlene, Omaha, Neb.; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Kathleen, Grand Forks, Agnes and Dennis Hindemith, Omaha, Neb., and Margaret Carper, Minot; one sister-in-law, Lois McCann, Mandan; 12 nieces and nephews, Mike, Martin, Cheryl, Bridget, Mary, Joseph M., Sean, Kevin and Jeff McCann, Cynthia Burrell, Paul Hindemith and Chris Carper; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Herbert; and one brother-in-law, Darryl Carper
